A Royal Wedding

Last Saturday I had the wonderful privilege of shooting Brian and Chelsea's wedding. It was at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis. What a beautiful church.
Chelsea's day started at Choices Hair Salon in Greenwood.




Then it was off to the church to finish with make up and dress!









While Chelsea was getting ready Brian was going over details with his best man.



















At the end of the day it was a success! A beautiful day and a beautiful wedding. I could tell everyone was having fun at the reception! All these elements makes my job of getting great photos so much easier. Thank you Chelsea and Brian for choosing me as your photographer. Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon.

It's Another Birthday!

Today I had another opportunity to shoot the Frame family. They have been one of my more consistent costumers and I really do appreciate there business. It was Hunter's second birthday and boy has he grown up. It's funny how this job really reminds us of time and daily changes. The birthday party also gave me a chance to get the "Girls" together. This seems to be turning into a tradition for them. With natural lighting flooding in from the open glass walls this one shot looks like a glamour shot from a beauty dish and high speed strobes would produce. Not bad from a Panasonic GH-2 and available light! Well, once again I had a great time. Thank you James and Amie.

Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4

Yesterday my order for the Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 arrived. Few things I noticed after briefly playing with it on my GH2. It is extremely sharp, and it focuses very fast regardless of available light! Wow what a wonderful addition to the m43's system. This will definitely be my "normal" go to lens.




Here is an example just how sharp this little lens is. Shot nearly wide open at f1.6. Not sure why I didn't shoot wide open. Maybe it was my little faith from lenses of my past.

Yashica 124G

Yesterday I stopped into Robert's, our local camera store here in Indianapolis, and picked up my negatives that I had recently shot using a newly acquired Yashica 124G. This was exciting since it meant the first for a number of reasons. My first with a Yashica camera and my first for shoot with medium format film. Everything coming up to this point was basically trial and error. Ok I have to admit that I did use the Internet for some help but I still had many uncertainties. Did I load the film right? Am I advancing the film correctly? These may seem silly to some but these are things that I have taken for granted in my digital packed lifestyle. Let's not even think about exposing correctly. Well, when I got the negatives I was extremely surprised. Hey, that old incident light meter really works! I thought TTL was the only way to get perfect exposures. Granted I had to slow down, think about what I wanted, and finally "click" the picture. But I think that's what makes using the Yashica so charming. Yes I said charming. It's a change of pace and an opportunity to recharge my artistic side as well as my technical side of photography. Remember you have to think before you click.




Now I've heard that we've surpassed film digitally long ago. And in this I mean medium format vs. digital. So it was no surprise when after scanning the negatives they didn't have the detail or near the snap that I get from my Sony Nex5n. But none the less I was still very pleased. In fact, so pleased that I'm going to incorporate my Yashica into some photo shoots.




I think my next roll I'll try Roberts scanning service in conjunction with their developing service. Incidentally there was a large scratch on one of the negatives and it was the lab technician's opinion that it occurred during processing. So Roberts didn't charge me for the processing. Kudos to Roberts on good business practices.

December 26, Ashley and Joshua

Well, I'm starting to feel the pressures of the holidays easing off. I know that sometimes we try and over do it but I also believe that you get out what you put in. That said I'm also enjoying the rewards of a successful wedding. I couldn't be happier with the images that Gabe and I got from Ashley and Joshua's wedding. Yes, the weather was an issue along with limited daylight because of the season but this created some artistic opportunities. You have to hand it to the bride and groom for wanting pictures in the snow!

Not only were Ashley and Josh willing to tough it out, but they also had a great sense of humor.

I always tell my clients that my style of photography leans towards journalistic. Trying to capture a story without adding to it. Having pictures taken while getting ready I'm sure can be unsettling at times. It is for this reason that I would like to thank Ashley for her patients and trust.

B&W is such a timeless classic. I personally think that it truly adds so much to the ceremony that color can't.

Probably the best first dance I have ever witnessed! Good job you two! And kudos to Josh for going along with the dance lessons.

Again Ashley and Josh, thank you so much for the opportunity to shoot your wedding. I hope the two of you had a great honeymoon and I hope you enjoy the pictures. Andy

Wedding Rehearsal

On December 23rd Ashley and Josh had their wedding rehearsal. This was an invaluable time for me to check out the lighting and layout of the church for that special day for Ashley and Josh. If there is one thing I learned about Ashley its that she's all about the details. From how the rehearsal was carried out to the first dance at the reception, Ashley and Josh put a lot of time and effort into their wedding plans.
